There are more than 1.43 million apps offered in Google Play (app store for Android phones), and I will share the top 3 types that are the most popular among the Taiwanese today.

1. Chat Apps – Featured: LINE

LINE has an overwhelming popularity in Taiwan. With an unlimited internet access, users can send messages to their heart’s content with the least expenditure. Taiwanese can also make free phone calls, have an access to a plethora of stickers, and chat groups involving any number of people. This makes LINE highly convenient to use. On top of that, LINE is not only used for personal means. Businesses conferences, customer services etc are also using LINE as a medium.

2. Recipe Apps

Not just among the housewives, recipe apps have also gained popularity among the students and female white-collar workers. The reason behind its popularity is partly because of the expensive eat-out alternatives, and also because of a health-conscious lifestyle. In fact, there had been problems with food ingredients safety this year, with many cases of problems with eating out. This has raised concerns about food safety, and the economical cooking culture has begun to take root in Taiwan.

3. Restaurant Review Apps

Yet, while eating-in is gaining popularity, Taiwan has not broken away from its eating-out culture. Thus eatery applications retain their own popularity, apps that show restaurant menus, reviews, offer booking services, and show vicinity searches for nearby restaurants. It has becomed the norm for anyone with internet access to check the reviews of a prospective restaurant.

3 things make Malaysian Muslim concerned when they travel to Japan③

• Prayer

Islam is a religion of ease. The 5 times a day prayer rule can be change slightly during travel. Islam provides ease and flexibility for muslim to travel in comfort. The Zuhur and Asar prayer can be combined and shorten during the stipulated time, same with Maghrib and Isha. You can even perform prayer in the bus while sitting. Remaining pure is one of the standards that Muslim need to adhere to perform prayer. The problem will arise if the dogs and alcohol are present. Dog’s saliva is considered extremely unclean. If touched, we are required to wash it thoroughly and there is a specific method to do it. Simply wash it with water wouldn’t do, which is the troublesome things here. So having a dog at a venue could be problematic but not a major problem. Don’t worry if you are hosting a Muslim guest. There are a thousand of ways to perform prayer and in Islam, not to trouble the host are one of the important manner.

Almost all of the places in Japan are totally clean. During my visits to Japan before, I have never seen a glimpse of stray dogs but instead a very cute dog on a lovely evening walk  together with the owner. We have no problem to perform prayer. Some buildings and hotels even have a special place to pray, Qibla direction and many more Muslim convenient facilities. To enter the prayer room, we need to ask the key from the authorities. That just prove on how the room is well guarded. The picture below is a prayer room in Kanda University.

 

Nonetheless, important things to highlight here is that Muslim are not a homogenous entity, it is difficult to create a one-size that fits all of need and wants and it is almost towards inconsistent degree. Things mention here are as guide and from my personal experience as a Malaysian Muslimah. I really recommend for Islam follower to go on travel. Last but not least, buck up your seatbelt and send my regards to Japan!!

They should be no physical contact between a Muslim and the opposite sex. So how about handshakes? Though handshakes is a friendly gesture, unfortunately the rules above state it all. This matter could be a dilemma. They doesn’t want things to appear awkward and doesn’t want to be rude.  When we learn about the bowing etiquette (お辞儀) which doesn’t involve skin contact, we can breathe a sigh of relief. Basic bows are performed with the back straight and the hands at the sides (boys and men) or clasped in the lap (girls and women), and with the eyes down. Bows originate at the waist. This culture is very interesting. The feeling of respect is well felt for both parties. If you think that Islam is all about Haram and no fun. Clearly! It is not! The example above just prove on how we can do stuff without stepping on the boundaries.

Today I can introduce the hottest three apps in Thailand.

When you install any applications on your smartphones, it will influence your daily life. And now I am going to overview how Thais impact our lives by applications. I undoubtedly skip the applications which are so-called the first-one-picked such as all family of Line apps, Facebook, Messenger and so on. I, however, have found the most-downloaded applications in Thai which certainly appear on each and every smartphones or tablets.

Let’s get start at Wongnai app! Wongnai is Thai language and means ‘insider’. Wongnai is an application which users can pile recommended restaurants up from all over Thailand and talk all about food. This app is attractive itself because users likely share detailed information and real reviews. So when you need to find a place to eat, you just navigate and pinpoint which area you want to go eat by GPS. Then, you easily dine at. Afterwards, you can quickly point out your reviews and how to get the restaurants so that restaurant ‘insider’ will be wildly extensive. Also, you can follow your friends’ movement too!

GrabTaxi app is second to none. GrabTaxi literally means ‘grab a taxi’. The application is fully developed since people had found flagging down a passing taxi difficult. It is a vastly used app in Southeast Asia such as Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, etc. It is sleek and easy to hail a cab by momentarily tapping on the app. We do not have to go out and hail a cab but merely request a taxi by specifying where you are going to take a ride and get off. Then, app subsequently takes your request. Later on, you can find the taxi driver detailed history before you hop on the taxi.

Let’s move to Pantip Me app! Pantip is a popular Thai web board with discussion forums. Pantip is being split into 1000(pan) and tip (literally). The web board is normally popular so when it is transformed into app, it has totally taken more hits and even very simple to use, read, tag, post, upload, search, give gifts and everything comparing to having it on website. Recommended features are that you can save topics you want to read later as an offline mode or being customizable. Plus, it will pop up the most popular talk of the town and you will not miss out!
