Have you ever read ‘Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2017’ published by World Economic Forum? It shows Taiwan is 30th in the world and 7th in Asia.
As you can know from this result, the hotel industry is catching the world’s attention! Then, I’d like to introduce the status of tourist industry in Taiwan and strategy of a Japanese company.
■Pay attention to Taiwan’s tourist industry!
After Ms.Tsai Ing-wen became a president, Taiwanese companies focuses on not China but ASEAN to get many tourist to Taiwan.
Acoording to the statistics about sightseeing from Directorate-General of Budget, the number of people visiting Taiwan was 10.69 million and reached high in 2016. This shows 2.4% increased comparing with 2015.
Moreover, from on November in 2015, people living in Indonesia and Indo, Vietnam, Philippine and Thailand can get visa for sightseeing easily in case of group tour. That’s why tourist from South East Asia gained very much in 2016.
When Ms.Tsai Ing-wen knew this result, she told ‘Thank you’ in 9 languages via her Twitter. Do you understand why many companies are paying attention to tourist industry in Taiwan?
■Strategy of Japanese company
Japanese companies are expanding Taiwan, so I’d like to introduce how “Mitsui Real Estate Development” became famous in Taiwan.
①How to be known better
Mitsui announces they will open a new hotel which has 300 rooms and is located at central city of Taipei in 2020. Their targets are tourist from Japan and people visiting Taiwan for business, tourist from Hong Kong and South East Asia and residents in Taiwan. Mitsui tries to build many hotels around Taipei
In fact, this is not the first project for Mitsui in Taiwan. They opened ‘Outlet Park’ at Linkou in 2016, and same one at Taichung will be opened in 2018. In 2021, ‘La La Port’ like outlet will be opened. In other words, they let Taiwanese and visitors to Taiwan know their name effectively. Collaboration gives an effect to be known better.
It takes 1 minute from St. Zhongxiao Xinsheng (2 stations away from St. Taipei) on foot, about 15 minutes by car from Taipei Songshan Aitport to the hotel.
Now, I want to focus on “Subway”! A bullet train expanded to St. Taipei from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport on March in 2017. It takes 36 minutes. Before this, we should use buses or a bullet train and subway. But, It became easier for us to go Taipei because of this. So, I think Mitsubishi researched and checked this information early.
As you know, prices of lands and salary will be higher with hotel’s gaining. However, most of customers want to stay hotels which are reasonable and high quality. Thus, you need to cut cost of something. That’s why it’s good to build hotels near stations of subway.
Of course, it is very important to promote via SNS and service kindly to get many customers. If you do something like that, you will miss customers because of other hotels.
